Bringing Colour and Creativity to Morecambe UTC
We’re excited to share that we’ve installed a series of colourful, interactive paintings at Morecambe Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) to brighten up the waiting room and make visits a little more enjoyable for patients of all ages.
The purpose
FCMS has been involved in supporting projects within the local communities, we supported Morecambe Bay Primary School in building a new Library for the school children giving them a quiet space to enjoy reading, we have also supported new initiatives at Stanley Community Centre. After visiting Morecambe Bay Primary School and seeing the impact of murals in community spaces, we wanted to bring something similar to the UTC waiting room and out-of-hours service.

Why the paintings?
We know that waiting for appointments can sometimes be stressful or boring, especially for children. The paintings are designed to:
- Keep patients entertained while they wait
- Provide a calming, sensory-friendly environment for children and patients with neurodiverse conditions
- Add colour and interactivity to the waiting room, especially with the “Spot the difference theme”
What’s on the paintings
- Four “Spot the Difference” paintings feature Morecambe landmarks – two in daytime and two at night – framed in A2 size
- Blank versions of the paintings are available so children can colour in while waiting
- The artwork took 10 weeks to complete
- Each painting includes a QR code linking to a feedback form so patients and families can let us know what they think
What the artist said:
We spoke to Chas Jacobs, the artist behind the project, about his work in the community and what inspired these pieces.
“Once I’ve actually got my ideas together, it’s just an amalgamation of everything around Morecambe because I’ve done so many pictures over the years of the bay and everything; I have a real feel for it. Being an artist, you can put a little bit of abstract into it, make it interesting and a bit brighter than it actually is.
You do a background, then you build it up, gradually, day by day. It’s very addictive. You just don’t want to stop painting. It really gets a hold of you. So yeah, when they were finished, I was really pleased.
I’ve been asked over the years to do colouring books and all sorts, but I’ve never done this, so it was a challenge, but I’m really pleased with the results.”

Amanda Mclean, our Virtual Care Lead, who organised the paintings, said:
“We wanted to create something bright, interactive, and welcoming that everyone can enjoy while they wait for their appointments.”
We’re thrilled to see the paintings installed at Morecambe UTC and hope they help make waiting a little more colourful and fun. Visitors are encouraged to try the “Spot the Difference” games, colour their own versions, and share feedback via the QR cods.
