FCMS, in collaboration with the Lancashire County Council, are now providing Free NHS Health Checks across Lancashire.
What is an NHS Health Check?
As we get older, we are all at higher risk of developing certain health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and stroke. Having an NHS Health Check can help reduce these risks.
The NHS Health Check only takes about 20 minutes and involves answering some general questions about a persons health, as well as a few simple health tests.
The checks include:
- Height and weight
- Blood Pressure
- Cholesterol
- Blood sugar
- Basic questions about family history, exercise, alcohol and smoking
On completion of the NHS Health Check, a cardiovascular disease risk score will be given, which is an estimate of how likely that person is to get heart disease or have a stroke in the next 10 years.
They can also find out their risk of developing kidney disease and Type 2 diabetes.
Depending on the score, advice will be given about how to lower these risks with lifestyle changes.
