Background
FCMS has been working with Lancashire & South Cumbria ICB to provide a pilot GP consultation scheme for asylum seekers.
Asylum seekers often face complex health needs exacerbated by language and cultural barriers, poverty, transient living, and trauma.
We previously provided over 1500 health checks for asylum seekers in Blackpool and became familiar with the challenges and barriers that are experienced. The service we now deliver focuses on addressing the health inequalities present.
What do we provide?
These GP led clinics involve a range of partner services and the offer includes:
- Full GP consultation
- Mental health assessment/support
- Blood borne viruses screening
- Support with completing HC1 forms
- STI screening
- Chronic disease assessments
- Supporting dental/opthamology referrals
- Child health visiting team
- Health visitors
- Enhanced health checks
- Cervical smear clinics
- Medication reviews
- Collaboration with Complex Midwives service
The service has evolved into a one stop shop for health needs and signposting and we’re proud of our Complex Lives Team for the impact they have made in delivering this service!
Lasting Impact
Our GP lead has contributed to the British Red Cross Delivering with Dignity Framework.
The team has secured approval to develop an education programme around this project and created a range of CPD materials for primary care professionals.
What is UHUK?
UHUK (Urgent Health UK) is a national partnership of social enterprise urgent healthcare providers. FCMS is an active member and we support their work to champion the importance of social enterprise healthcare providers, influence policy, drive innovation and share learning across the sector.
