FCMS signs Insourcing and Community Provider Charter
This weekend we were proud to be one of the first community providers to sign up to the insourcing and community provider charter!
What is it?
To reduce variation and promote best practice, the BSE and the leading independent providers of high-quality echo insourced and community services have joined together to develop a charter setting out a minimum set of standards.
What does it mean for us?
Accredited by the British Society of Echocardiography since 2014, we deliver a high-quality service for patients and commissioners. This weekend continued our objective through the release of the insourcing and community provider charter, signed by six industry leaders, including FCMS!
Working with the BSE, FCMS and the other named service providers have committed to deliver the following standards as a minimum:
- Minimum appointment duration of 45 minutes
- Adherence to the BSE minimum dataset
- All echocardiograms will be reported in accordance with the latest BSE guidelines.
- Processes must be established to ensure and maintain echocardiographer competence.
- Echocardiographers will be supported to assure high quality echos for patients.
- Patients are best served when echocardiographers have had the benefit of a broad base of training and exposure.
- Appropriate remedial action will be taken in the event of substandard practice being identified.

Professor Dan Augustine
President of the BSE, said:
“We are grateful to the signatories for working with us on this and for their commitment to high quality echo for all patients. We hope this charter helps centres requiring additional support to secure the services their patients deserve and those which genuinely help resolve backlogs, rather than potentially add to them.
We know the effort that you put in daily to deliver the best to your patients. Despite the challenges that we face with workforce pressures and waiting lists, the Echo community continues to step up and work tirelessly to continue to improve and provide the best patient care you can. BSEcho 2024 allows us the time to reunite, to learn as one, laugh together, celebrate successes and share our experiences. It allows us a time to reflect and look ahead, individually and as a society.”
